More Hummingbirds, Less Ants

Found this little hummer nesting in our Magnolia. She’s difficult to see so we put a circle around her.

Concentrated sugar water used to feed hummingbirds will attract ants. The ants then drive the birds away and you have an ant problem. In the past, mineral oil, vasoline or a very fine fishing line inserted between the branch and the hummingbird feeder were recommended. There are several product on the market to keep ants away from hummingbird feeders. Three of our favorites are Trap-it Ant Moat for Hummingbird FeedersParasol Ant Moat Ant Guard, and Stokes Select Ant Moat. We’ve found these items on Amazon and at local stores that carry hummingbird supplies. Act now, before ants become a problem. Do you have photos of hummingbirds in your garden? Please share!
